The Artist
This is actually a cheat, as I saw this aaaages ago on a plane and thought I had done a review of it but hadn't - so rather than making any great observations, this is more of a reminder to myself that yes, I saw it. It was a clever use of silent film and the development of silent film into sound, and the problems faced by those who preferred the way things had been (and the sorts of films that got made then). The dog was, indeed, show-stealing. The romance was fairly insipid and unbelievable, but very much in the spirit of the films to whom it was paying homage. I am, however, not quite sure whether it deserved the critical acclaim which it received, other than for technical creativity.
