This morning's Broadcasting House on Radio 4 had an interesting discussion that raised the generalisation that men tend to read non-fiction for pleasure in general and catch up with fiction reading on holiday, while women read fiction all year round. (No opinion was expressed about whether women only read non-fiction on holiday.) So, given my erudite readership, I thought a poll was in order.
Two qualifications on terminology. First, yes, I know the gender binary sucks, and I apologise in advance if you don't self-define as either female or male. Second, by 'reading' I mean 'reading for pleasure', 'reading I don't have to do for my job or school or similar', that kind of thing. I should probably also apologise in advance for any poll!fail, as I usually end up missing out salient ticky-boxes. Feel free to expand and discuss further in the comments.
