This sounds like the sort of thing that a lot of people who read this journal would be interested in, from one of my mailing lists; please feel free to propagate.

TELLUS ISSUE 1

Tellus is a new magazine for contemporary poetry engaging with ancient civilisations. To order a FREE copy of the first issue simply send your address to orders@tellusmagazine.co.uk by February 26th.

Featuring Andrew Motion, Michael Longley and Maureen Almond alongside exciting new poets, the first issue boasts a vibrant and eclectic mix; from a Sardinian warrior statue we jump to the Babylonian Enlil's frustration with the sheer noisiness of the people he has created, to a haunting lyric miniature of a speech by Deianeira from Sophocles' Trachiniae, and to Lesbia, who finally gets a chance to speak her mind on Catullus 51. I know everyone's probably see this in about fifteen billion places, but just in case, I thought I'd do a quick post with appropriate links about the proposed cuts in palaeography at King's College London.

Mary Beard's original post on the subject, explaining why cuts are necessary within the current state of the UK higher education system, and why palaeography is an easy but misguided target.

The inevitable Facebook group, although this one is doing something useful and coordinating a letter-writing campaign, and members indicate that King's might be listening to snail-mail, e-mails and so forth.

The equally inevitable petition, with over 4,500 signature at time of posting.

An op-ed gets cute on the subject, and does the 'value isn't economic' spiel.
