Tonight's Prom was Purcell's The Fairy Queen. I quote: "Adapted from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Purcell's most lavish theatre score takes the form of a series of fantastical masques presented for the entertainment of Titania, Oberon and their fairy court".
The production is semi-staged, which means you actually hear the actors going in between the musical interludes - and they're jolly good. The program will be available until this time next week.
The more I think about it, the more I'd quite like to make it to a Prom when I'm back in the UK.
