Charitable opportunity
Sep. 30th, 2007 09:25 amI know some of you are pegged into
lj_biz, but for those of you that aren't, you may have missed this post, and I wanted to make sure you didn't.
The long and the short - if you email donorschoose@sixapart.com and request a gift certificate, they will give you a $30 certificate to spend at DonorsChoose. Yes, just give it to you, no money needs to change hands.
DonorsChoose is a charity organization whereby teachers submit projects that they want funded - everything from pencils to computers to dictionaries to software - and those giving are able to choose the projects they want to fund.
metonymy is full of nothing but good praises for this project, having supported them before. It is a US-only organisation, but there's not a lot to be done about that; however, I see no reason for people in the UK not wanting to help students in the US have teaching supplies.
You need to email before 5 PM PST Monday (that's 8 for East Coasters and 1 AM Tuesday for the UK) to get the certificate.
Apologies if you were already aware of this, but I've not seen it on my flist other than
metonymy and the original post, and ergo it deserves wider propagation.
